Pheasant Tail

Pheasant Tail feather is a beautiful natural material that has many uses in the fly tying world. With its barbules about 3-5 cm. long you can tie the classic Pheasant Tail nymphs, you can to tie the tails and to make the body by wrapping them around the shank of the hook and reinforcing the resistance against trout teeth, using copper wire tinsel. The reinforcement tinsel can be made with materials that also give reflections to the artificial. You can also tie tails and bodies of dry flies, spider and wet flies. The fibers of these feathers are extremely imitative, in fact they can also be used to make terrestrial legs, sedge wings and antennae, wing cases of emergent and pupae. Taking only the ends that end in a point, you can also make the lateral wings that come out of the thoraxes of the nymphs between the dubbing. They can also be used as an alternative product to tie small streamers. They combine very well with other natural materials such as hare mask or partridge feathers and peacock, as well as with synthetic materials that give them beautiful reflections. The fibers can be reinforced during assembly by putting a drop of glue on the shank of the hook before wrapping them, or when using them to tie the wing cases you can put a drop of UV glue on top of them once they are fixed.
